Women Helping Youth Supports Young Filmmakers

Because of the generosity of the women of WHY, every student in our 2022 Animation Program now has a reliable tool for developing their skills this summer and beyond.

Film2Future was founded with the intent to remove barriers to entry for diverse, emerging filmmakers to achieve careers in the entertainment industry. One major barrier is access to quality equipment that can run professional filmmaking software. Nearly all Film2Future students lack access to a computer at home capable of working on their film projects. It is important that students not only have access to computers during the program, but also at home so they can put in the hundreds of hours needed to learn advanced software.

This year, the Women Helping Youth (WHY) provided Film2Future a $30,000 grant to purchase 20 new Macbook Air laptops for our animation program students. Women Helping Youth is a women’s philanthropic organization committed to improving the physical, mental and emotional well-being of children and young adults in underserved communities throughout the greater Los Angeles area.

The announcement of Women Helping Youth’s generous support was made to the students by WHY representative Barbara Dembo on May 21st at our Meet and Greet event. Students were surprised as their laptops were unveiled.

Because of the generosity of the women of WHY, every student in our 2022 Animation Program now has a reliable tool for developing their skills this summer and beyond. With the generous support of Adobe, these laptops are loaded with Adobe Creative Suite, equipping students with professional level tools for their creative endeavors. Students will continue to be able to use these laptops at home throughout their time with Film2Future for their creative endeavors.

It is because of support from partners, like Women Helping Youth, that our students continue to have access to equipment that will make them successful in making their first shorts.
