2023 Screening and Awards Ceremony

On December 10, 2023, we will recognize the hard work and achievements of our students and volunteers at our annual Screening & Awards Ceremony! This event is attended by our students, their families, and special industry guests. Last year, speakers included Loren Bouchard (Creator, “Bob’s Burgers”), and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (Advocate and member of the NBA Hall of Fame).

This year, 48 students created 9 short films that will premiere at the event, taking place Sunday, December 10th, 4:30-7:30 pm PT at the historic El Rey Theater in Los Angeles. Our partners and supporters in the industry play an important role in making this a once-in-a-lifetime experience for our students.

We are excited to have Kimrie Lewis (Actor, Writer, Director) joining us this year as our host! Kimrie is a South Central Los Angeles native and a graduate of New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts and London’s Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. She has recently starred as Mika on the NBC sitcom “Kenan”, starring Kenan Thompson and Poppy Banks on the ABC comedy, “Single Parents.” Follow her on Twitter/Facebook/Instagram @iAmKimrie.

We are thrilled to be honoring Tazbah Chaves with our 2023 Changemaker Award. Tazbah Rose Chavez (Dinè, Nüümü, San Carlos Apache) is a performance poet turned television writer and director from the Bishop Paiute Reservation. She is currently Co-Executive Producer/episodic Director on FX’s “Reservation Dogs”. She has worked on SyFy’s “Resident Alien”, Peacock’s “Rutherford Falls”, directed on HBOMAX’s “Sex Lives of College Girls” and is a Writer/Director on FOX’s upcoming new series, “Accused”.
